Ethics & Lobbying

McConnell pressured from right on ethics

Robert Bluey, a "reasonable conservative," thinks Mitch should obstruct the ethics and lobbying reform bill put together by Senator Reid. It seems that Sens. Coburn, DeMint, and Lott have found Jesus, now that they are in the minority, and think the Dem bill doesn't go far enough on "earmark reform," a bit of dog and pony bull that conservatives like to play with to feel principled. Regardless, conservatives are mad at McConnell for not wanting to lead a filibuster, and the good will he's won with them by obstructing S-CHIP and ranting about Guantanamo detainees appears to be dissipating already. Bluey quotes CongressDaily:

“After the exhibition I saw on immigration, I don’t suspect there’s going to be a lot of strength and dynamic leadership here [to oppose the lobbying reform legislation], but we’ll see,” [Trent Lott] said, referring to GOP criticisms of McConnell’s lack of visibility during the final days of the unsuccessful immigration debate in June.

Update: More conservative blowback against Mitch.
